Genetic diversity using biochemical, physiological, karyological and molecular markers of Sesamum indicum L

Abstract: The genetic diversity and the relationships among sesame cultivars were investigated using physiological and cyto/molecular analysis. To our information, no studies have yet been conducted on the genetic evaluation of sesame genotypes based on cyto/molecular analysis in Saudi Arabia. This study showed that genotype Bah-312 had the highest values from physiological and biochemical traits (plant height, harvest index, total plant dry matter, seed yield, oil content, and fatty acids content). Using 20 ISSR and 25… Show more

“…The M 1 and M 2 generation results revealed that higher doses exhibited inhibitory effects on yield traits, while lower doses showed stimulatory effects on yield-attributing characters. These results agreed with previous studies ( Verma et al., 2017 ; Hanafy and Akladious, 2018 ; Naaz et al., 2020 ; ALshamrani et al, 2022 ). The diminution in quantitative traits at higher concentrations may arise due to physiological disturbance or DNA damage triggered in the plant cells by the mutagen ( Thilagavathi and Mullainathan, 2011 ).…”

“…Mesfer ALshamrani et al explored the genetic diversity of six sesame landraces by ISSR maker. They amplified 233 alleles, while the average polymorphism percentage (P%) of all the genotypes studied was 65.32% and the ISSR markers utilized were highly reproducible [ 42 ]. Gholami et al also confirmed that ISSR markers could be useful for distinguishing the relationships among species of Iranian terrestrial orchids [ 43 ].…”

“…The Bayesian clustering method was applied by using Structure V2.2 [ 28 ] to investigate the genetic structure. Triple independent simulations were performed per each assumed number of sub-populations K (tested K = 1 to 5).…”
