Generalized Iterative Dichotomy PAPR Reduction Method for Multicarrier Waveforms

Abstract: 5th generation systems (5G) will be based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) multicarrier modulation technique. This modulation has a very high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR). This high PAPR is a drawback when nonlinear Power Amplifiers (PA) are operated near the saturation region, for energy efficiency purposes, due to in-band and out-of-band impairments. In this paper, a new PAPR reduction technique called Iterative Dichotomy PAPR (IDP) is proposed. This method is suited for any multica… Show more

“…The major challenge in OFDM modulation is high PAPR which occurs when the nonlinear power ampli ers are operated near the saturation region. Thus, Khaled Tahkoubit et al [22] presented an e cient PAPR reduction model named Iterative Dichotomy. This method used analytical derivatives for decelerating the PAPR range.…”

“…Furthermore, some researchers investigate attaining an optimal channel estimation approach. Some existing methods like closed-form based Symbol Error Rate (SER) [21], Iterative Dichotomy for PAPR reduction [22], and multiple access approach named Index modulation multiple access (IMMA) [23], etc., are developed to overcome the problems with tradition channel estimation techniques. However, the high BER and PAPR reduce the channel performances.…”

“…Tis value can be used as one of the indicators to measure the stability of the communication system. A high PAPR of the system is likely to cause signal distortion, which will lead to an increase in the bit error rate (BER) of the system and result in hardware loss and system performance degradation, so it must be suppressed [50][51][52]. Te concept of PAPR was introduced into the study of human visual characteristics, and the peak-to-average ratio of saccade velocity (PARSV) was established to refect the dynamic balance degree of saccade behavior and to represent the stability of individual visual search ability, as defned in the following equation:…”

“…The OFDM symbol, x k , is a period-based periodic function, T p = 1∕Δf , and Δf the subcarrier spacing, as determined by Δf = B∕(N − 1) and B is the signal modulation bandwidth. Consequently, a high PAPR still exists in the real-valued time-domain OFDM signal envelope (Tahkoubit et al 2021).…”
