This image of a planetary-mass object around another star (1RSX J160929.1-210524 ) is probably the first direct picture of another planetary system. It was taken using adaptive optics on Gemini North in Hawaii. The doubt about whether this object (with around eight times the mass of Jupiter) is a planet hinges on whether or not it is gravitationally tied to the young star, similar in mass to the Sun.
