The rampant and sudden outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus also called COVID-19 and its uncontrollable spread have led to a global crisis. COVID-19 is a highly contagious disease and the only way to fight with it is to follow social distancing and Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs). Moreover, this virus is increasing exponentially day-by-day and a huge amount of data from this disease is also generated at the fast pace. So, there is a need to store, manage, and analyze this huge amount of data efficiently to get meaningful insights from it, which further helps medical professionals to tackle this global pandemic situation. Moreover, this data is to be passed through an open channel, i.e., the Internet, which opens the doors for the intruders to perform some malicious activities. Blockchain (BC) emerges as a technology that can manage the data in an efficient, transparent manner and also preserve the privacy of all the stakeholders. It can also aid in transaction authorization and verification in the supply chain or payments. Motivated by these facts, in this paper, we present a comprehensive review on the adoption of BC to tackle COVID-19 situations. We also present a case study on BC-based digital vaccine passports and analyzed its complexity. Finally, we analyzed the research challenges and future directions in this emerging area.

Life-threatening novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), also known as COVID-19, has engulfed the world and caused health and economic challenges. To control the spread of COVID-19, a mechanism is required to enforce physical distancing between people. This paper proposes a Blockchain-based framework that preserves patients' anonymity while tracing their contacts with the help of Bluetooth-enabled smartphones. We use a smartphone application to interact with the proposed blockchain framework for contact tracing of the general public using Bluetooth and to store the obtained data over the cloud, which is accessible to health departments and government agencies to perform necessary and timely actions (e.g., like quarantine the infected people moving around). Thus, the proposed framework helps people perform their regular business and day-to-day activities with a controlled mechanism that keeps them safe from infected and exposed people. The smartphone application is capable enough to check their COVID status after analyzing the symptoms quickly and observes (based on given symptoms) either this person is infected or not. As a result, the proposed Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Interference System (ANFIS) system predicts the COVID status, and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) enhances the accuracy rate to 95.9% compared to state-of-the-art results.

This paper is on the suggestion of maintenance items for electric railway facility systems. With the recent increase in the use of electric locomotives, the utilization and importance of railroad electrical facility systems are also increasing, but the railroad electrical facility system in Korea is rapidly aging. To solve this problem, various methodologies are applied to ensure operational reliability and stability for railroad electrical facility systems, but there is a lack of detailed evaluation criteria for railroad electrical facility system maintenance. Also, maintenance items must be selected in a scientific and systematic method. Therefore, railroad electrical facility systems are selected for study. Design Structure Matrix (DSM) is utilized to establish considerations tailored to the maintenance characteristics, and the Fuzzy-TOPSIS methodology is utilized for determining the maintenance detail evaluation item baseline weights, a multi-criteria decision-making problem. Studies show that degradation, insulation items have the highest weight of 14.63%, and capacity items have the lowest weight of 5.34%. The results of this may be contributed to the underlying research in carrying out maintenance activities to ensure the reliability and safety of railroad electrical facility systems.
