Fusaristatins A and B, Two New Cyclic Lipopeptides from an Endophytic Fusarium sp.

Abstract: Two new cyclic lipopeptides, fusaristatins A (1) and B (2) were isolated from rice cultures of a Fusarium sp. YG-45 in the course of a screening of endophytic fungi. Their structures of 1 and 2 were determined by spectroscopic methods. 2 showed a moderate inhibitory effect on topoisomerases I (IC 50 : 73 mM) and II (IC 50 : 98 mM) without cleavable complexes. Furthermore, 1 and 2 showed the growth-inhibitory activity toward lung cancer cells LU 65 with IC 50 values of 23 and 7 mM, respectively.

“…Thus, new and more-powerful drugs are necessary to solve these problems. Marine microorganisms, especially fungi, are still a less investigated resource of bioactive substances [5,6]; recent investigations indicated their tremendous potential as source of new drugs [7-13]. …”

“…Fusarium spp. are often found in plants and many bioactive components have been isolated from these endophytic fungi, such as pentaketide, cyclic lipopeptides, pyrroles, and indole alkaloids (Brady and Clardy 2000;Tan and Zou 2001;Shiono et al 2007). Colletotrichum spp.…”
