“…Traumatic reactions to these systems are mainly induced by maceration of the occluded skin. The combination of sweat accumulation and a local rise in temperature due to occlusion will also create an ideal climate for the growth of bacteria and/or yeasts, which possibly also contribute to traumatic reactions under long-term transdermal therapeutic systems (Peck, Michelfelder & Palitz, 1951;Marples & Kligman, 1969). Long-term occlusion ofthe skin with a transdermal therapeutic system inevitably causes accumulation of sweat at the skin surface in absence of evaporation.…”
