A 53 year old Negro male with rheumatoid arthritis received various steroid compounds intermittently for 9 years and continuously for 5 years. After an intramuscular injection in the right buttock, he developed subcutaneous abscesses and sinus tracts at the site of inoculation, incision and drainage were performed twice, 4 years later. After an exacerbation of the abscesses, microscopic examination of the purulent material revealed hyphal elements.
