Fungicidal and spectral studies of some triphenyltin compounds
Abstract: In the interest of developing a more effective fungicide to combat Dutch elm disease, our laboratories have synthesized several triphenyltin carboxylates and some 1:1 addition compounds of triphenyltin chloride using 2,3-disubstituted thiazolidin-4-ones as the ligand and screened them in vitro against Ceratocystis ulmi, the causative agent of Dutch elm disease, using a shake culture method. Elemental analyses and spectroscopic data indicate that the structures of the carboxylates in the solid state are monomer…

“…In recent times, pharmaceutical properties of organotin carboxylates have been investigated, with particular reference to their antitumour properties [7]. Biocidal uses of organotin carboxylates have continued to attract attention [9], [10]. There is also interest in the structural chemistry of the compounds [11], [12], [13].…”

“…The current research dealing with metal complexes of heteronuclear Schiff bases has expanded enormously and includes diversified subjects comprising their various aspects in biocoordination and bioinorganic chemistry. It is known that the presence of metal ions bonded to biologically active compounds may enhance their activity [13–16]. Heteronuclear Schiff base complexes have found applications as magnetic materials, catalysts and in the field of bioengineering [17, 18].…”
