“…Beside these approaches, copolymerization of the olefin with an olefin bearing the chromophore, i.e., carbazole as in the present study, is the most cost-effective method to access these materials. Most cases in literature deal with the synthesis of PE-based copolymers, and studies about the preparation of PP-based are quite rare. In the latter case, copolymers of PP with 9 H -alkenyl carbazole, in which the olefin and the photoactive group are linked by spacers of different length (3 and 9 carbons long), have been synthesized by using metallocene and postmetallocene catalysts. One of these research groups has investigated this kind of PP copolymers as fluorescent probes to track the effect of PP microplastics on organism in aquatic environments.…”

“…26,27 Although coordination catalysts are ideally suited for olefin insertion polymerization (IP), 28,29 the harmful side reactions between the heteroatom and the active metal center obstruct synthesizing functional olefin copolymers through IP. 30 Another route to synthesizing functional olefin copolymers is the incorporation of latent reactive moieties into the polyolefin chains during coordination polymerization (metallocene 31,32 or even Ziegler−Natta 33 ). The latent reactive groups in the polyolefin chain play the role of stable initiating sites for the subsequent polar monomer polymerization.…”

“…Conversely, the intrinsic discrepancy between the reactivity ratios of functional alkenes and olefins hampers the copolymerization process using the conventional approaches. Also, the “polar monomer problem” may disturb the coordination polymerization of olefins with heteroatom-containing vinyl monomers. , Although coordination catalysts are ideally suited for olefin insertion polymerization (IP), , the harmful side reactions between the heteroatom and the active metal center obstruct synthesizing functional olefin copolymers through IP . Another route to synthesizing functional olefin copolymers is the incorporation of latent reactive moieties into the polyolefin chains during coordination polymerization (metallocene , or even Ziegler–Natta).…”
