Abstract

The concept of active life expectancy adds a useful new dimension to the study of outcomes in AD.

The Contribution of Dementia to the Disablement Process and Modifying Factors

“…The multistate Markov model confirmed and explained the different disablement patterns observed in the PAQUID study [24]: women more frequently experienced progressively increasing disability, while in men the trajectory was rapidly interrupted by death. These findings are consistent with the paper by Dodge et al [30] showing that demented as well as nondemented older women live longer than older men, but the gained survival is spent living with intermediate or extensive disability.…”
