“…Camhi (1969) had demonstrated that the sensory cells innervating each locust wind-receptor hair respond to a persistent wind stimulus with a slowly adapting train of impulses. The sensory cells are excited when the sensillae are inclined, and the frequency of their slowly and incompletely adapting responses is proportional to loss of incline by the hair (Varanka and Svidersky, 1974). The rate of adaptation reported by Camhi (a decrease of 37.5% from the initial rate within 250 m, followed by a plateau) was quite similar to the adaptation exhibited by the TCG responses of crowded locusts in our study.…”
