“…et al reported that fucoidan from S. fusiforme (SFPS-B2) inhibited the growth of the human gastric cancer cell line SGC-7901 with IC 50 of 189.30 μg/mL by the induction of apoptosis via a mitochondrial-mediated pathway [ 19 ]. Fucoidan F2 from the brown alga S. polycystum exhibited a cytotoxic effect against MCF-7 breast cancer cells and HCT-15 colorectal adenocarcinoma cells with IC 50 of 20 and 50 μg/mL, respectively [ 20 ]. On the other hand, sulfated polysaccharide isolated from S. hemiphyllum did not exhibit cytotoxicity against 5637 and T24 bladder cancer cells but suppressed cancer stem cell formation which is implicated in tumor initiation, metastatic spread, drug resistance, and tumor recurrence [ 21 ].…”

“…These polysaccharides have valuable biological activities and unique biomedical applications. In particular, it is known that several fucoidans isolated from algae of the genus Sargassum have an anticancer effect in various cell lines [ 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 ].…”

“…Since tumour migration and invasion ability are closely related to EMT, we want to explore whether fucoidan can inhibit the progression of hemangioma by inhibiting the EMT process. It has been reported that fucoidan can inhibit the proliferation of tumour stem cells in bladder cancer 40 and prevent EMT by blocking extracellular matrix degradation in endothelial cells, thus hindering tumour metastasis. 41 In our study, data showed that fucoidan exhibited an inhibitory effect on the proliferation of EOMA cells and promoted apoptosis, especially in high concentrations.…”

“…Sung et al . [ 19 ] reported that fucoidan treatment inhibited bladder cancer cell migration and suppressed stress fibers aggregation including filopodial protrusion in bladder cancer T24 and 5637 cells. In addition, fucoidan also inhibited cancer cell migration in many cancer cell types including HepG2-SR, CRPCa, and mCRPCa cells [ 20 21 ].…”
