FTIR analysis of silane grafted high density polyethylene

Abstract: Vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMOS) monomer was grafted onto high density polyethylene by reactive processing in a twin screw extruder in the temperature range of 180-240uC. The effect of VTMOS and 1,3-bis (tert-butylperoxyisopropyl) benzene peroxide (BTBB) on the extent of grafting was studied using qualitative and quantitative Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The grafting reactions were confirmed via infrared absorption bands present in the 800 cm 21 region which are characteristic wavenumbers for the vibr… Show more

“…Symmetrical stretching of T-O-T was attributed to the bands at 445, 620, and 737 cm -1 [35]. For ANA-s-MPTES and ANA-MPTES, the band around 2884-2973 cm -1 was detected as asymmetric stretching of CH2 from the propyl groups after surface modification with MPTES [27,36].…”

“…These peaks do not exist in Ic/Hyd. FTIR spectrum . It should be mentioned that in FTIR spectrum of PVA there is an absorbing band in 1092 cm −1 , which is related to stretching vibration of (COC) OH, but it is overlapped with SiOSi peak in Ic‐NC/Hyd.…”

“…but regarding absorption band at 1375.78 cm -1 arises due to Bending vibrations of C-O groups and the absorption band at 1255.97 cm- 1 . It has been attributed to bending vibrations of C-O groups [22,23,24]. The Fourier transforms infrared spectra of (PP/PMMA/HDPE) blends, with different ratio of HDPE are shown in figure (3,4,5 and 6).…”
