Four‐Dimensional Speckle Tracking Echocardiography in Patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Abstract: Patients with HCM have reduced longitudinal and radial strain but increased circumferential and area strain on 4DSTE. These results are found appropriate with previous 2DSTE studies. Thus, 4DSTE is useful to determine LV deformational mechanics.

“…It bases on a speckle tracking imaging technique and 4‐track intra‐myocardial echo spots by automatically analyzing myocardial longitudinal and circumferential areas, as well as the radial strain and strain rate, to identify slight differences of strain in space and time in each myocardial segment . In addition, 4DSTE can evaluate global and regional myocardial deformation or strain as well as early myocardial dysfunction in numerous systemic diseases …”

“…The changes and compensatory mechanisms of LV deformation were also observed with four-dimensional STE, an innovative tool acquiring a 3D view of the heart and allowing a real time visualization of change in strain in every segment of the LV 31. Analysis of strain-derived longitudinal and circumferential mechanics and LV torsion and twist seems to give feasible and valuable information to better understand the underlying pathophysiological abnormalities of HCM and the compensatory role of each component to guarantee normal cardiac function.…”
