“…It is well known that fornix injury is closely related to memory impairment in patients with TAI; however, very little is known about the effects of injury to the MCP. 16,18,19,32,33 Therefore, the methods and results of the current study may be helpful for the rehabilitation of memory dysfunction in patients with TAI. Moreover, we believe that the methods of the current study can be applied to other patients with TBI.…”

“…MEP variables are altered in patients with DOC and cerebral insult compared with healthy persons. 8 –12 Significant elevations in motor threshold levels in persistently unresponsive postcomatose patients with brain injury have also been reported. 9 Patient groups with VS and MCS exhibit lower MEP amplitudes and higher resting motor thresholds compared with healthy controls.…”

“…Heterogeneity of the time post‐injury may also have affected the relation between cognitive performance and DTI parameters. Additional studies should be repeated using a larger sample of pediatric and adult head injured participants and prospectively followed to assess whether these acute effects translate into any long‐term DTI abnormalities as has been reported for moderate‐to‐severe TBI 28–30 . Multi‐modality imaging studies are also underway to further understand TBI‐related differences in distributed neural networks to determine how central the role of fornix injury may be in TBI or whether the abnormalities are more reflective of generalized changes that occur following injury.…”
