Foreword to the Special Issue on Advances in SAR and Radar Technology

Abstract: 1]. There 163 papers were presented to over 240 attendees with worldwide 17 exhibiting companies. It was a very exciting activity [2] held by IEEE GRSS All Japan Chapter [3] and the Institute of Electronics, Information, and Communication Engineers (IEICE) Electronics Society.APSAR covers a wide variety of SAR and radar related topics including SAR applications, analysis techniques, signal processing, and SAR system design and concepts. In APSAR 2013, "Disaster Monitoring" was the main theme, providing the att… Show more

“…Further, the application modes have been upgraded from the original single-radar highresolution imaging to multi-mode multi-angle autonomous guidance, multi-radar cooperative precision imaging, and others. With fixed weight, volume, and power consumption of the load platform, the use of a single chip to complete real-time image processing establishes the basis and challenge for implementation of complex multi-mode new SAR systems [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8].…”

“…It is a radar that uses the Doppler information generated by the relative motion between the radar platform and the detected target, and uses signal processing method to synthesize a larger antenna aperture [1][2][3]. As it can penetrate clouds, soil and vegetation, it has become more and more widely used in many important fields [4][5][6]. Recent publications have reviewed the applications of satellite remote sensing techniques for hazards manifested by solid earth processes, including earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, landslides, and coastal inundation [7][8][9].…”

“…A spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) works all‐weather day‐night and has the ability to image vast area at a high resolution [1]. As one of the important means of space‐to‐Earth observation, SAR plays an important role in disaster emergency response, environmental monitoring, resource exploration and geographic information access [2–4]. Recent publications have reviewed the applications of satellite remote sensing techniques for hazards manifested through solid earth processes, including earthquakes, volcanos, floods, landslides, and coastal inundation [5–7].…”
