Abstract: Welcome to the 30th anniversary of ISSCC.Although the phenomenal progress of solid-state technology would fill many volumes the size of this digest, it is still interesting t o consider the progress which has occurred within the lifetime of these meetings. At its inception in 1954, devices were made in germanium.
