ForewordThe 21st annual meeting of teachers of medical statistics in U.K. medical schools was held in Burwalls, Bristol, U.K., on 5 to 7 April 2000. It was attended by around 30 participants from 16 di erent medical schools. In planning the meeting we chose to concentrate on issues in the teaching of statistics, but asked Doug Altman to give a general (and light hearted) review of the history and development of the meetings over the past two decades.
