Foraminiferal bioevents in the upper Campanian to lowest Maastrichtian of the Middle Vistula River section, Poland

Abstract: These events are re corded in very sim i lar strati graphic po si tions in the Lägerdorf-Kronsmoor succes sion (north ern Ger many) and in the suc ces sion of east ern Eng land and, at least some of them, in east ern Eu rope. Accord ingly they can serve as im por tant mark ers for strati graphic cor re la tion across Eu rope. The FOs of the plank tonic spe cies, Rugoglobigerina milamensis, R. hexacamerata and R. pennyi, in the up per most part of the "Inoceramus" redbirdensis Zone, are very close to the Campan… Show more

“…Un doubt edly, Campanian is the age of fauna iden ti fied in a sam ple col lected from the 1G bore hole at 18.8 m depth, also marked as Maastrichtian in fig ure 3, but left uncommented on in the text. The fauna as sem blage in cludes the foraminifer Globorotalites michelinianus (ta ble 1), which points out to a strati graphic in terval not youn ger than the Mid dle Campanian (Inoceramus tenuilineatus Zone; Peryt and Dubicka, 2015). More over, this foraminifer was de rived from sed i ment lo cated higher in el e vation than above-men tioned Abathomphalus mayaorensis (Bolli) and clos est to the ero sional top sur face of the Ju ras sic for mation.…”

“…Unfortunately, the zonation worked out on the borehole material was not directly correlated to the macrofossil standard zonation and consequently, its chronostratigraphic interpretation was difficult. The recent restudy of selected sections with well-constrained chronostratigraphy (Dubicka 2012(Dubicka , 2015Peryt 2011, 2012a, b;, 2016Jurkowska et al 2015;Peryt and Dubicka 2015;Machalski et al 2016) allowed for the precise and rigorous correlations between micro-and macrofossil zonations. The summary on the recent development in the benthic foraminiferal zonation and its correlation to the chronostratigraphic standard is presented below.…”
