Abstract: Flight activity of bees is influenced both by environmental factors and by internal condition of the colonies. Information about external activity of bees is very important, because it provides data of the species biology, supplying subsidies for the use of these insects in the pollination of crops. The present work aim to evaluate the flight activity of Geotrigona subterranea (Friese, 1901) (Hymenoptera: Apidae) in natural environment. This study was performed on the Instituto Federal do Norte de Minas Gerais… Show more

“…Stingless bees may have one or two peak foraging hours, depending on species. For example, Trigona iridipennis has two peak hours of foraging activity, which are in the morning and in the afternoon [3], while the peak foraging hour for Geotrigona subterranean is during midday between 13:00–14:00 h [19]. Another stingless bee, Plebeia remota, carries out its peak foraging activities at different times according to the season.…”

“…Multiple factors have been reported that affects foraging efforts as well as foraging distance in bees. These factors include experience, wing damage, environmental factors, and internal condition of colonies (Klein et al 2019, Higginson et al 2011, do Nascimento and Nascimento 2012, Barbosa et al 2016. It had been expressed that individual honeybees increase their foraging performance with experience.…”

“…Additionally, recent studies have also shown that stingless bees can have one or more times when foraging reaches its peak (Barbosa et al 2016;Layek and Karmakar 2017;Basari et al 2018).…”
