Foliar epidermal micromorphology and its taxonomic significance in Polygonatum (Asparagaceae) using scanning electron microscopy

Abstract: In the current investigation, 16 samples of six species of the genus Polygonatum were collected from different geographical regions in China. Leaf micromorphological traits were studied in detail using scanning electron microscopy. About five-leaf samples were used for each species collected from different geographical regions. A significant variation was found in the foliar epidermal traits such as stomata types and their distribution, epidermal cell shape, anticlinal wall pattern, and various types of tricho… Show more

“…The chemically synthesized nanoparticles were cubic and spherical (Figure 2b). The SEM studies has revolutionized the bioscience and its various field to explore the ultra‐structure of nano‐particles (Saqib et al, 2020) and other plant materials as well (Ali et al, 2020; Amina et al, 2020; Ashfaq et al, 2020; Bahadur et al, 2018; Gul et al, 2019, 2020).…”

“…The systematic value of leaf epidermal characters, such as stomata size, complex type and surface structure are well documented in Liliaceae s.l . (Ali et al, 2020; Klimko et al, 2018; Meng, Wang, & Nie, 2016). However, these leaf micromorphological traits were found to be generally similar across the four Korean Disproum species, except for the size of stomatal complex and the nature of the epidermal cell surfaces (Table 2).…”

“…In the modern era, the use of scanning electron microscopic study (SEM) has revolutionized bioscience and its various branches, which provides the opportunity to explore consistent features to determine plant taxa, as well as information about the anatomical, palynological and ecological significance of different plant groups (Ali et al, 2020; Ashfaq et al, 2018; Bahadur et al, 2018; Gul et al, 2019; Ishtiaq et al, 2020; Retamales & Scharaschkin, 2015). Pollen morphological characteristics are essential to determine the relationship between species, which can be applied to distinguish species from one another that have similar in physical appearance.…”
