“…The type I IFNs bind to specific cell surface receptors to induce the JAK-STAT signaling pathway that results in the expression of a set of antiviral proteins . Many molecules (MAVS,IRF1 and viperin) have been proven to exert conserved functions in fish (Feng et al, 2015;Wang et al, 2014;Zhang et al, 2014). Additionally, identification of the novel fish-specific antiviral genes (Gig1, Gig2 and DreI) has shown that fish type I IFNs can function in a unique way (Li et al, 2012;Sun et al, 2014).…”

“…Fish have a conserved RLR signaling pathway to trigger an IFN response (44,48). During this signaling, two IRF members (IRF3 and IRF7) and two adaptor proteins (MAVS and MITA) are involved (20,40,49,50), although in mammals, gene-knockout studies showed that mouse MAVS-TBK1-IRF3/7-IFN signaling and MITA-TBK1-IRF3/7-IFN signaling are triggered by RNA viruses and DNA virus, respectively (3). However, there are exceptions, because MITA-deleted mouse is partially impaired in IFN induction upon infection with two RNA viruses, Sendai virus and vesicular stomatitis virus (51)(52)(53), and in Sendai virus-infected HEK293T cells, MITA links TBK1 and IRF3/7 to MAVS-associated complex for IFN response (53), indicating a functional linking of mouse MITA and MAVS.…”

“…In P. olivaceus and C. auratus, IFN-I and Mx expressions are regulated by IPS-1-activated IRF-3 and IRF-7 (Simora et al, 2010;Zhang et al, 2014). In D. rerio, IFN1 and IFN3 are differentially regulated by IRF3 and IRF7 .…”

“…In the past few years, IPS-1 has been identified in many fish species and functional characterizations are also shown in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), Japanese flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus), Green spotted puffer (Tetraodon nigroviridis), zebrafish (Danio rerio) and crucian carp (Carassius auratus) (Biacchesi et al, 2009(Biacchesi et al, , 2012Lauksund et al, 2009;Simora et al, 2010;Xiang et al, 2011;Zhang et al, 2014). In teleosts, overexpression of IPS-1 promotes the induction of IFN and activation of NF-kB.…”
