First Observation of Unbound O11 , the Mirror of the Halo Nucleus Li

Abstract: The structure of the extremely proton-rich nucleus 11 8 O3, the mirror of the two-neutron halo nucleus 11 3 Li8, has been studied experimentally for the first time. Following two-neutron knockout reactions with a 13 O beam, the 11 O decay products were detected after two-proton emission and used to construct an invariant-mass spectrum. A broad peak of width ∼3 MeV was observed. Within the Gamow coupled-channel approach, it was concluded that this peak is a multiplet with contributions from the four-lowest 11 O… Show more

“…In Refs. [19,22], the computed resonances are clearly narrower than the ones obtained in the present work, and the fact that the two energies given for the lowest 3/2 − and 5/2 + states are similar to ours, but with the quantum numbers exchanged, is probably just an accidental coincidence. The reason for this difference is difficult to determine.…”

“…On the one hand, in our work the core is assumed to be spherical in contrast to in Refs. [19,22]. Thus, we have ignored the possibly significant role played by the deformation.…”

Sim-arXiv:1910.12984v1 [nucl-th] 28 Oct 2019 ilarly, the excited 1/2 − 1 narrow resonance in 15 F, located well above the 14 O+p threshold and the Coulomb barrier, is expected to reflect features of a nearby 13 N(g.s.…”
