Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control for an LCL-Filtered Grid-Tied Inverter with Full Status Estimations under Unbalanced Grid Voltage

Abstract: This paper proposes a novel finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) strategy with merely grid-injected current sensors for an inductance-capacitance-inductance (LCL)-filtered grid-tied inverter, which can obtain a sinusoidal grid-injected current whether three-phase grid voltages are balanced or not. Compared with the conventional FCS-MPC method, four compositions are added in the proposed FCS-MPC algorithm, where the grid voltage observer (GVO) and Luenberger observer are combined together to ac… Show more

“…The voltage conditions are controlled at the PCC. The voltage conditions deeper in the grid (after impedance Z g1 ), if not available directly through measurement, could be reconstructed using various methods utilizing the measurements at PCC [39], [40], [41], [42]. A similar can be said for knowledge of Z g1 .…”

“…is delay will degrade the performance of PCS. To overcome this drawback, it is advisable to compensate the unit delay of grid voltage sampling conveniently based on predicting the voltage in the next instant using Lagrange extrapolation theorem [26]. u gx (k + 1) calculated based on three-order Lagrange extrapolation is expressed as…”

“…where u a , u b and u c are output voltage values of a, b and c phases of three-phase four-switch converter, u dc is input voltage of three-phase four-switch converter, which is the sum of voltages of split capacitors u dc1 and u dc2 at the dc side. S b and S c are switching states of b and c phases in the three-phase four-switch converter, each of them has two logical states 0 and 1 [26,27]. When S X = 0, T X 1 is off and T X 2 is on.…”
