“…The anatomical searches carried out in birds for years intended to discover the relationship among the shapes and placement of tongue, structures and distribution of lingual papillae, the features of surface epithelium, and their eating habits and food types. These studies have been done not only in fowl (Iwasaki and Kobayashi,1986; Kudo et al,2008; Nickel et al,1977; Parchami et al,2010a) but also in birds of prey (Emura,2008; Emura et al,2008a, b;2009b; Parchami et al,2010b), in ratite birds (Crole and Soley,2009a, b; Crole and Soley,2010; Guimarães et al,2009; Pasand et al,2010b; Santos et al,2011), and also in water birds (Almansour and Jarrar,2007; Iwasaki,1992; Jackowiak et al,2006; Kobayashi et al,1998). The studies focusing particularly on the anatomy of palate and laryngeal region have been performed in the ratite birds (Crole and Soley,2009a; Pasand et al,2010a; Tadjalli et al,2008) and to a lesser degree in other wild species (Igwebuike and Eze,2010; Liman et al,2001) in detail.…”
