Abstract: -The objective of this work was to evaluate the contribution of efficient nitrogen-fixing rhizobial strains to grain yield of new cowpea cultivars, indicated for cultivation in the Brazilian Semiarid region, in the sub-medium of the São Francisco River Valley. Two experiments were set up at the irrigated perimeters of Mandacaru (Juazeiro, state of Bahia) and Bebedouro (Petrolina, state of Pernambuco). Desempenho em campo de novas cultivares de feijão-caupi inoculadas com estirpes de rizóbio eficientes na fixa… Show more

“…In the State of Piaui, inoculation with UFLA 03-84 and INPA 03-11B, was produced yield of 797 to 1,621 kg ha -1 in Dom Pedro: and 923 to 1,430 kg ha -1 in São Luís, respectively. Marinho et al (2014) obtained higher grain yield in the non-inoculated treatment and the results were similar to inoculation with the strains BR 3267, BR 3299T, and UFLA 03-84.…”

“…Based on reports available in literature, nodulation in several legume-rhizobia systems are negatively influenced by high temperature and low soil moisture (Kahindi et al, 1997;Kulkarni et al, 2000), whose characteristics are often found in Brazilian Semiarid. However, some native isolates may overcome the unfavorable conditions and improve its nodulation capacity contributing to plant establishment and production (Hungria and Vargas, 2000;Marinho et al, 2014). It could explain the behavior of ESA 123, an isolated selected from Barbalha (Cunha, 2014), that contributed to increase the pod production of plants.…”

“…The stability of agronomic efficiency in different environments is one of the most important criteria in selection procedures. Studies based on selection of new Bradyrhizobium strains to commercial legumes have been carried out in Brazilian Northeast region, in last years (Marinho et al, 2014). Even so, there is still lack of knowledge regarding strain selection for peanut, and this work offers broad information on the behavior of upright genotypes evaluated under inoculation of a new Bradyrhizobium strain in different environments of Brazilian Northeast region.…”

“…It is unlikely that a climatic or edaphic factor is impeding fixation which could be caused by absence of a specific bacteria to form symbiosis. Inoculation with previously selected, high fixing, compatible bacteria species could correct the problem (Marinho et al, 2014) but this is not a common practice in the country or in other areas, where jack beans is planted as a green manure species (Ojien et al, 2007). Confirming that fixation can occur in Poaceae species (Miranda et al, 1990;Montañez et al, 2009;Morais et al, 2012;Urquiaga et al, 2012;Santos et al, 2017), maize and sorghum had low δ15N signal and in the case of sorghum even lower than the signals of all legume species.…”
