Under normal conditions, fibrobiasts produce collagen precursors and nonsulfated acid mucopolysaccharides (29). In pathologic states, the fibrobiasts may be commatided by some circulating messenger either to overproduce acid mucopolysaccharides, resulting in mucinosis, or alternatively, to overproduce collagen, resulting in lesions sucb as dermatofibromas.…”
