Fertility Properties and Leafy Vegetable Production in Soils Fertilized With Cattle Manure

Abstract: -The effect of organic fertilization with cattle manure on fertility properties of soils with different clay contents was evaluated; as well as the influence of cattle manure fertilization on the production of lettuce, and on subsequent arugula and common chicory grown in these soils. The experiment with pot plants was arranged in randomized blocks and analyzed in a 3x6 factorial design with four replications. The treatments consisted of three soil types with different clay contents (166; 362; 565 g kg -1) and… Show more

“…-1 of cow manure combined to NPK rates was possibly due to a low content of this nutrient in cattle manure. Mantovani et al (2017) have found a low content of Mg 2+ in cattle manure. Ewulo (2005) reported that addition of cattle manure to soil leads to increase in soil CEC, phosphorus, and magnesium.…”

“…Figure 2 also shows that the maximum LAI values occurred at 42-49 DAP without manure application, while the maximum LAI was achieved with the application of 10 tons.ha -1 of manure, with the curves remaining flat to 49-56 DAP. In other words, the decrease in LAI was slower with than without manure, as organic matter increases the supply of nutrients, particularly P, K, and Zn (MANTOVANI et al, 2017).…”

“…No geral, a oferta de matéria orgânica pode ser feita através de adubação orgânica com o uso de esterco bovino. Autores como Mantovani et al (2017) estudaram a adubação com esterco bovino em hortaliças folhosas e concluíram que houve aumento na produção de alface, rúcula e almeirão, cultivados de forma sucessiva em função da utilização do esterco. Entretanto, sabe-se quem nem sempre existe a disponibilidade de esterco dependendo da região, o que motiva a busca por opções alternativas para produtor.…”
