Studies of temporal dynamics for grassland sites report that fire suppression plays a crucial role in floristic changes. The objective of this study was to verify whether after seven years without fire, communities showed variations in terms of composition, life forms, pollination and dispersal syndromes. The first survey (T0) was conducted from September 1999 to October 2000, while the second (T1) took place from August 2006 to August 2007. The floristic results in T1 were compared with the survey in T0 through the Sorensen similarity index and Chi-square tests. Over time, there were differences in the composition, life forms and pollination and dispersion syndromes. The evidence of changes suggests that the frequency of the fire regime can be considered the main agent for change in the flora of these communities.

RESUMOO presente trabalho objetivou avaliar a qualidade de mudas de seis espécies de eucalipto, produzidas em substratos com diferentes proporções dos resíduos orgânicos: fibra de coco e casca de arroz carbonizada. O experimento foi implantado no Viveiro Florestal da UnB. Como substratos, foram utilizados os dois resíduos misturados à vermiculita em três proporções (25%, 50% e 75%). As espécies foram avaliadas separadamente, cada uma com seis tratamentos dispostos em DIC no esquema fatorial 2×3 (dois resíduos e três proporções), com oito repetições. Foram avaliados: altura, diâmetro, número de folhas, massa seca aérea e radicial, relação altura/ diâmetro e índice de qualidade de Dickson. O resíduo fibra de coco foi superior em relação à casca de arroz carbonizada para altura, diâmetro, massa seca aérea e relação altura/diâmetro para a maioria das espécies avaliadas. A incorporação de 25% da fibra de coco proporcionou um maior padrão de qualidade das mudas em todas as espécies estudadas.Palavras-chave: resíduos orgânicos, fibra de coco, casca de arroz carbonizada. Establishment of Seedlings of Eucalyptus spp. andCorymbia citriodora on Different Substrates ABSTRACTThis study aimed to evaluate the quality of seedlings of six eucalypt species produced on substrates with different proportions of organic waste: coconut fiber and rice hulls. The experiment was carried out in the forest nursery of the University of Brasilia (UnB). The substrates used comprised combinations of two residues mixed with vermiculite at three proportions (25%, 50% and 75%). The species were evaluated separately, each with 6 treatments arranged in a completely randomized design in a 2x3 factorial (two residues and three proportions) with 8 repetitions. The following parameters were evaluated: height, diameter, number of leaves, dry mass of shoots and roots, height/diameter ratio, and Dickson quality index. Higher measures of height, diameter, dry mass of shoots, and height/diameter ratio were observed on the substrate with coconut fiber compared with the substrate with rice hulls for most species evaluated. The incorporation of 25% of vermiculite to coconut fiber residue provided a higher quality standard of seedlings for all species studied.

RESUMO -(Fitossociologia do estrato herbáceo-subarbustivo de uma área de campo sujo no Distrito Federal, Brasil). O campo sujo consiste basicamente de um estrato herbáceo sub-arbustivo dominado por gramíneas, alguns arbustos esparsos e indivíduos arbóreos normalmente menos desenvolvidos de espécies de cerrado sentido restrito. O objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar a estrutura fitossociológica do estrato herbáceo-subarbustivo, em diferentes períodos de amostragem, em uma área de campo sujo localizada na Fazenda Água Limpa, Brasília, DF (15º55'35,1"S e 47º54'20,9" W). Uma área de 400×400 m foi subdividida em quatro porções de 200×200 m onde foram sorteadas linhas de 40 m. No levantamento fitossociológico adotou-se o método de interseção na linha. Foram amostradas 163 espécies, incluídas em 78 gêneros e 39 famílias. A família mais importante foi Poaceae com 67,04% de cobertura. A similaridade de Sørensen entre as quatro linhas amostradas foi alta, entre 0,60 e 0,69, provavelmente devido à homogeneidade do solo da área. A similaridade entre os cinco períodos de inventário também foi alta, pois as espécies mais importantes variam pouco as suas taxas de cobertura ao longo do ano. No entanto, para o estrato herbáceo recomenda-se mais de uma amostragem por ano, para se registrar as espécies com baixa freqüência e cobertura e com ciclo de vida curto. Campo sujo consists of an herbaceous/sub-shrub layer dominated by grasses with some scattered shrubs of poorly developed cerrado sensu stricto species. We did a phytosociological survey of the herbaceous/sub-shrub layer of a campo sujo at the Água Limpa Farm, Brasília, DF (15º55'35,4''-15º56'4,1''S; 47º54'20,8''-47º54'21,9''W.) by sampling over time. We randomly set 40-meter transects inside a 400×400 m plot divided in four quadrats of 200×200 m. The line intercept method was adopted for sampling where each line was divided in 1 m sections. We found a total of 163 species belonging to 78 genera and 39 families. Poaceae was the most important family with 67.04% of cover. Sørensen's similarity indices were high (0.60 to 0.69) when comparing the transections, probably due to the uniform soil. The similarity between sampling periods was also high probably because there was little variation in cover rates for the main species over the year. However, sampling more than once a year seems to be necessary to register rarer, low-cover and ephemeral species.
