Abstract: Multi-phase motors have attracted increasing attention in fields seeking high reliability, such as electric vehicles, ships, and rail transit, as they exhibit advantages, such as high reliability and fault tolerance. In this study, we consider a 12-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). First, a mathematical model of the 12-phase PMSM in the static coordinate system is established and the model is simplified according to the constraint condition of neutral point isolation. Second, according to the pr… Show more

“…Figure 5b is the fault-tolerant current generated by maximum torque output (MTO) control law (15). It can be seen that the simulation results of single open-phase is consistent with the single-phase fault-tolerant current in Equations (14) and (17).…”

“…As shown in Equation (14), the current in (13) is transformed from the inverse transformation of the normal coordinate system to the natural coordinate system of the five phases. In the formula, I m is the current amplitude of the five phase PMSM in normal operation.…”

“…Their range of application includes both high-precision machine tool drives (e.g., CNC machine tools) and drives with smaller requirements (e.g., domestic appliances). There is also growing interest in using PMSMs in electric vehicles [4,5], such as drives embedded in wheels [6] or as multiphase machines [7,8]. The main advantages of PMSM drives are high dynamics, high power density, and high efficiency.…”

“…Fault-detection and tolerant operation of modular multilevel converters (MMC) are investigated in [1,2], where the latter deals with the insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) open circuit fault. Fault diagnosis techniques related to machines are more diverse, where synchronous generators (SG) [3], permanent magnet (PM) machines [4][5][6], multi-phase machines [5,7,8], and induction motors (IM) [9][10][11] are involved, and winding short circuit fault [4,5], rotor broken bar fault [12,13], and eccentric and bearing faults [13] are discussed.…”
