Fault Diagnosis of PMSG Stator Inter-Turn Fault Using Extended Kalman Filter and Unscented Kalman Filter

Abstract: Since the permeant magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) has many applications in particular safety-critical applications, enhancing PMSG availability has become essential. An effective tool for enhancing PMSG availability and reliability is continuous monitoring and diagnosis of the machine. Therefore, designing a robust fault diagnosis (FD) and fault tolerant system (FTS) of PMSG is essential for such applications. This paper describes an FD method that monitors online stator winding partial inter-turn faults … Show more

“…However, if the system is highly non-linear, they cannot give a precise estimation value for the estimated parameters in all operating points. In [24], a comparison between the EKF and the UKF techniques is introduced in estimating the stator inter-turn fault in the PMSG. This paper will concentrate on studying the difference between UKF and EKF as model-based fault detection algorithms for the detection of stator inter-turn faults in the PMSG considering the measurement' noise, in contrast to the free noise case in [24].…”

“…The unscented Kalman filter was proposed by Julier and Uhlman in the context of state-estimation for nonlinear systems [ 26 ]. To avoid the linearization process in the famous extended Kalman filter (EKF), a finite set of weighed sigma points will be generated by the UKF to compute the predicted states and measurements and the associated covariance matrices [ 27 ]. Generally, the UKF estimates the states of nonlinear systems according the flowing steps.…”

“…Using the equations obtained from the magnetic potential vector, the PM machine is analysed under an electrical fault. The PMSG is modelled under the TTSC fault in the dq reference frame in [24]. It has been used to detect the severity of the TTSC fault using the Kalman filter and extended Kalman filter.…”
