Fast File Transfers from IoT Devices by Using Multiple Interfaces

Abstract: The Internet-of-Things (IoT) is a modern technological revolution that enables communication amongst a plethora of different devices. To date, about 30 billion devices have been connected to the internet and more than 75 billion devices are probably to be connected worldwide by 2025. These can range from small sensors and actuators to larger devices such as smartphones, drones or even buildings and interconnected cars. Devices are often mobile and battery powered thus their communication requires fast and ener… Show more

“…The low latency and improved performance requirement of IoT, especially in an industrial setting, was later supported by the authors of [154] in 2017. With research continuing in improving latency and overall performance on existing 5G infrastructure [155]- [157], it is becoming increasingly clear that existing networks lack the capacity and performance requirements for communication of IoT data. The slower transmission and latency delays on existing networks will worsen due to congestion, as has been previously highlighted.…”

“…With the growing amount of always-online connected devices, the challenges to face within modern network environments have also grown. It is estimated that nowadays 30 billion devices are connected over the Internet and this number will reach 75 billion worldwide by 2025 [ 1 ]. This increase of devices is creating a massive number of issues such as attacks against the networking systems, data theft, addressing issues, sensors’ energy consumption and battery loss, etc.…”

“…The remote online upgrade must consider the function of file breakpoint continuation. Relevant research [14][15] has been carried out to realize file breakpoint continuation by using FTP (File Transfer Protocol) protocol and HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) protocol. These methods are suitable for downloading files based on the Web browser or file download tool.…”
