Family enrichment and women entrepreneurial success: the mediating effect of family interference

Abstract: Managing work and family is a topic of continual interest. We consider two types of enrichment: family instrumental (financial) support and family affective (moral) support. The interference aspect of WFI is depicted by women entrepreneurs' gender-related personal problems. Due to the non… Show more

“…Other studies have produced conflicting results. For example, while Welsh and Kaciak (2019) arrived at a negative relationship, Mari et al (2016) found a positive and significant effect of the owners' level of education on business performance. The educational level of the business owner is likely not to affect business performance in case the owner does not possess the educational experience or requisite skills related to the business activities (OECD, 2004).…”

“…Second, our study contributes to understanding the important role of family support in entrepreneurship intentions (Hockerts, 2015;Shen and Osorio, 2017;Sieger and Minola, 2017). Drawing on work-familyinterface literatures, previous studies have mainly discussed the direct influence of family support, because the family context may supply various types of support, such as strategic (Chrisman et al, 2005), moral (Welsh and Kaciak, 2019), emotional (Mari et al, 2016) or financial (Aldrich and Cliff, 2003;Sieger and Minola, 2017;Wang et al, 2018), to assist the business context. This finding contributes to the literature by showing that family-to-work support positively moderates the relationship between creativity in social work and SEI.…”

“…There is a general agreement that a pivotal factor determining women's entrepreneurship is the level of family support, both affective and instrumental. The relationship between business and family, and specifically, between family social capital and family involvement, is perceived as the most important determinant of women's entrepreneurial development (Venugopal, 2016*; Welsh & Kaciak, 2018*, 2019*; Welsh et al., 2014b*). Family firms that are started by a family perform better than do firms launched without family support (Welsh et al., 2018*).…”
