Failure mechanism and control of coal bursts triggered by mining induced seismicity in steeply inclined and extra thick coal seam

Abstract: With the increase in mining depth, coal bursts have become a major challenge in the safe mining of steeply inclined and extra thick coal seams (SIETCSs). Based on a typical mining induced seismicity triggered coal burst (MSTCB) in SIETCS, a large-scale numerical model was developed using the Universal Distinct Element Code. The numerical model was calibrated and validated by laboratory results and field observations. The stress evolution, crack development and ejection velocity patterns in the MSTCB were analy… Show more

“…With the increasing depth of coal resource extraction and the enhancement in the production capacity of individual mines after the integration of mining resources, the number of rock burst mines has gradually increased and the coverage area has also been expanding [1,2]. In this context, rock burst accidents have occurred frequently nationwide and have become one of the most serious coal and rock dynamic disasters in coal mining production.…”

“…Rockburst is a phenomenon in coal mining where the coal rock mass suddenly fails, releasing a substantial amount of energy, which can lead to the deformation of the roadway surrounding the rock, equipment damage, and potential disasters such as coal and gas outburst and water inrush [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. The Binchang mining area is one of the major Chinese coal-producing regions, which is generally faced with the situation that the mining depth is large and there is an extra-thick water-bearing sandstone layer above it.…”

“…They proposed an early warning method for big rock noise events. Cao Jinrong [21] analyzed the horizontal and vertical ejection velocities of the roadway through numerical simulation. Cheng Yunhai [22] studied the ejection phenomenon of the driving face through field monitoring.…”
