Abstract: In an attempt to define preoperatively assessed factors that might provide prognostic indications of early graft failure, a series of 350 consecutive femoropopliteal bypass operations have been analyzed with regard to various parameters. Data regarding sex, presence of diabetes and coronary heart disease, severity of symptoms, angiographic assessment of outflow vessels, hemodynamic investigations (ankle systolic pressure index and pulse volume recording), graft material and the site of the distal anastomosis w… Show more

“…No haemodynamic flow characteristics measured with NIRS were able to predict graft patency in the studies done by Eiberg et al 29,30 Graft patency is shown in several studies to depend on several factors, including choice of graft material, the type of surgical technique, ABI < 0.40 and other co-morbidity risk factors. 50,51…”

“…Although evidence of good correlation of the degree of ischaemia and muscle metabolism parameters exists, 12,22,23 it is likely that impaired muscle metabolism is a predictor of poor clinical outcome similar to what have been learned from other studies, where the most severely affected ischaemic limb measured as an ABI below 0.40 will be a predictor of poor clinical outcome. 51 However, the use of ABI as a predictor in the diabetic group is problematic as the prognosis could be unreliable. 53 We therefore suggest that the use of NIRS in this patient group could be a promising alternative.…”

“…Apesar dos bons resultados obtidos em termos de perviedade e salvamento de membro, um considerável número de enxertos evolui para a oclusão (10). A análise crítica dos fatores sistêmicos e locais que podem influenciar a perviedade do enxerto deve ser considerada durante todas as fases envolvidas no tratamento: indicação da cirurgia, técnica operatória utilizada, seguimento pós-operatório e indicação de reoperação, na eventualidade de obstrução do enxerto (11)(12)(13)(14)(15)(16).…”
