Abstract: BackgroundOver the last decade tuberculosis (TB) incidence and mortality in Brazil have been steadily declining. However, this downward trend has not been observed among HIV-infected patients. “…Our findings affirm the findings of the First National Tuberculosis Prevalence Survey in Tanzania where prevalence was higher in males than in females 13 . The findings are consistent with results from China 14 and India 15 as well as studies in Ethiopia and Brazil where males were reported to have an increased risk of TB even in HIV-infected population 16,17 . The lower incidence among females may be due to real lower incidence but also to concealment of a disease status by females because of fear of losing social status, marital problems, or harmful community reactions 18 .…”

“…In this study, superior results were yielded, since the number of requests was close to 100% and access to serology was in the range of 70% of patients with pulmonary TB. In a cross-sectional study using the national system database information (SINAN / TB) between the years 2007-2011, it was shown that, of the total of 429,567 patients with TB, only 56.73% had known a known HIV status (16) . The satisfactory results achieved on the testing of patients refers to the availability of rapid tests, being performed by the testing and counseling center in the city, located in the same building of the PCT clinic, and signals the good coordination between these services.…”

“…Em outras investigações a cor branca foi evidenciada como predominante 22,23 . A classificação de raça/cor é muito subjetiva e em um estudo com uso de dados secundários não pode afirmar que essa foi a raça que o sujeito auto referiu, porém é um resultado que auxilia na caracterização dessa população.…”
