Factors Associated With Longer Postoperative Outpatient Follow-up Duration in Patients With Single Lumbar Disc Herniation: A Noncomplicated Patient Cohort Study

Abstract: ObjectiveMany reports have described the outcomes of surgical treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). However, few reports have investigated the treatment period after lumbar disc surgery. If no complications occur, how long should an ordinary patient be treated? Which factors are associated with the outpatient follow-up period (OFP)? To answer these questions, we reviewed the medical records of patients who underwent lumbar disc surgery, calculated their average OFP, and sought to identify factors associat… Show more

“…Surgical treatment. All surgeons had more than 5 years of experience with either standard open microscopic discectomy or full endoscopic lumbar discectomy 11,[18][19][20][21] . The detailed standard surgical procedures were shared by all surgeons and researchers, and each surgeon was asked to operate using the routine surgical technique with which he or she was most confident.…”

“…Potential risk factors of ASD include posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF), injury to the facet joint of an adjacent segment, fusion length, the presence of a preexisting degenerated disc, lumbar stenosis, age, osteoporosis, female gender, and a postmenopausal state 1,4,14,23,28,31) . Although many authors have evaluated the risk factors of ASD, clearly defined results lack due to study heterogeneities 11,12) . Sagittal balance is closely associated with health-related quality of life, and thus, maintaining sagittal balance with adequate lumbar lordosis (LL) is an important goal of thoracolumbar fusion surgery.…”

“…With the continuous development of medical career, domestic diagnosis with SAT has also greatly improved in recent years [3][4][5] . For instance, the application of nuclear medicine is fully embodying the merits of non-invasion, convenience, high sensitivity and high specificity [6,7] . Nuclear medicine combined with ultrasound examination can significantly improve the diagnosis of SAT.…”
