Background: Although there are fewer COVID-19 cases in Indonesia, the pandemic is still ongoing. COVID-19 has a significant death rate in Indonesia, but lack of information on the effect of different clinical and demographic factors on COVID-19-related grimness and mortality in Indonesia. Objective: This study examined the clinical profile, treatment, and outcomes of patients with COVID-19 at Lahat Regency Hospital in South Sumatera, Indonesia, to find relevant markers that might be utilized to predict the prognosis of these patients. Methods: This was a retrospective single-center study of all medical record files of confirmed patients with COVID-19 admitted to Lahat Hospital from September 2020 to August 2021 (n = 285). Descriptive statistics, Chi-square, Mann-Whitney, Multiple Logistic Regression, and Cox's proportional hazards model were used for data analyses. Results: This study included 65 non-hospitalized and 220 hospitalized patients. Hospitalized patients were divided into dead and alive groups. The median age was lower in the non-hospitalized group without gender discrimination, and most hospitalized patients had comorbidities. Vital signs and clinical features were significantly different in hospitalized patients compared to non-hospitalized. The survival patients in the hospitalized group showed lower white blood cell (WBC), neutrophil percentages, and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) but higher lymphocyte and eosinophil. Non-survival patients had elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, blood glucose, and potassium. The use of Favipiravir and Remdesivir was significant between the alive and dead groups. The mean hospital stay for all patients was 9.49 ± 4.77 days, while the median duration of hospital time was 10.73 ± 4.33 days in the survival group and 5.39 ± 3.78 days in the non-survival group. Multiple logistic regression analysis determined respiration rate, WBC, and BUN as predictors of survival. Conclusions: Age and comorbidities are significant elements impacting the seriousness of COVID-19. Abnormal signs in laboratory markers can be used as early warning and prognostic signs to prevent severity and death. Potential biomarkers at various degrees in patients with COVID-19 may also aid healthcare professionals in providing precision medicine and nursing.

Objective: To evaluate the risk factors of death caused by COVID-19 in Iran. Methods: This study was a retrospective cohort study from February 20, 2020, to August 22, 2022, in the hospitals in Isfahan, Iran. The data were collected through a researcher-made checklist. To determine the risk factors of the death, logistic regression and Cox regression models were used. For each variable, the odds ratio and 95% confidence interval were also reported. Results: 1885 Patients were included. The age of deceased persons was significantly higher than that of the surviving persons. The risk of death for the age group above 60 years was about 14 times higher than that of people aged 19-35 years [95% CI: 14.41 (2.02-102.99), P<0.01]. Hypertension [95% CI: 1.92 (1.47-2.5), P<0.01], diabetes [95% CI: 1.62 (1.23-2.13), P<0.001], and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [95% CI: 1.92 (1.47-2.50), P<0.01] were also risk factors of mortality. Conclusions: This study reveals that the mortality rate due to COVID-19 is associated with old age, longer hospitalization in the ICU, increased length of stay, and comorbidities of high blood pressure, diabetes, and chronic pulmonary disease.

Background: Recognizing risk factors for poor prognosis among COVID-19 patients is crucial, especially given the absence of standardized treatments and medications. Objectives: In the present study, our aim was to survey changes in clinical parameters in children diagnosed with COVID-19 infection from admission to discharge. Methods: The present retrospective cross-sectional study focused on children with COVID-19 infection. All demographic data and clinical information of patients were extracted upon admission and at discharge from the hospital. Data analysis utilized the Mann-Whitney U test and Fisher exact test. Multivariable regression modeling was employed to identify factors predicting the probability and duration of hospitalization in ICUs for children with COVID-19. Results: Elevated levels of ESR, CRP, creatinine, and ferritin were found in 51.7%, 67.4%, 69.3%, and 53.6% of patients upon admission. Moreover, 98.2% and 38.3% of patients had high levels of ALP and AST. Platelet (PLT) and neutrophil levels were higher at discharge compared to admission (P < 0.001), while creatinine levels were lower at admission than at discharge (P < 0.001). Patients admitted to ICUs exhibited significantly higher levels of pulse rate (P < 0.001), respiratory rate (P < 0.001), mean corpuscular volume (MCV) (P = 0.01), red cell distribution width (RDW) (P = 0.002), prothrombin time (PT) (P = 0.006), and ESR (P = 0.04). Conclusions: Pulse rate, respiratory rate, MCV, RDW, PT, ESR, and oxygen saturation (SPO2) percentage can be used to predict the severity of COVID-19 disease. However, further studies are needed to determine the prognosis and severity of COVID-19 infection in children.
