Facile Synthesis of MoS2/CuS Nanosheet Composites as an Efficient and Ultrafast Adsorbent for Water-Soluble Dyes

Abstract: This study demonstrates quick and efficient removal of different dyes from wastewater by using MoS2/CuS nanosheet composites (NCs) as adsorbent. The MoS2/CuS NCs are prepared by a facile hydrothermal route, and the composites exhibit high adsorption capacity with 273.23, 432.68, 98.78, and 211.18 mg/g for rhodamine B (RhB), methylene blue (MB), methyl orange (MO), and rhodamine 6G dyes (RhB 6G), respectively. This is ascribed to its high specific surface area (106.27 m2/g) and small mesopores (2.299 nm) which … Show more

“…Adsorption separation is worth noticing as an attractive technique for removal of organic dyes from wastewater because of its many advantages such as low cost, simplicity of design, simple operation, operation at ambient temperature and pressure, insensitivity to toxic pollutants, and environment-friendly nature. Recently, many kinds of solid adsorbent such as graphene, graphene oxide, zeolite, metal–organic frameworks, carbon nanotube, layered double hydroxides, and mesoporous materials have been reported in the field of dye-selective adsorption. , …”

“…The main underlying mechanism for adsorption of CR on such a hierarchical adsorptive structure is assumed to be π-π stacking of the dye molecules on the nanocomposite [168]. MoS 2 /CuS nanosheet composite is another example of the hybrid 2D structures that benefits from a synergistic adsorption capacity, thereby, providing a promising adsorption efficiency for RhB (93.8%), MB (100%), and RhB 6G (84.73%), attributed to its high specific surface area (106.27 m 2 •g −1 ) and small mesopores (2.299 nm) [169]. With respect to the environmental applications of the MoS 2 nanosheets including dye adsorption, the interested readers are referred to an excellent review [170].…”
