Facile Synthesis of Hierarchically Structured Bi2S3/Bi2WO6 Photocatalysts for Highly Efficient Reduction of Cr(VI)

Abstract: Varied morphologies and compositions of bismuth tungstate nanocomposites have been investigated as promising materials for photocatalytic applications. Among these nanocomposites, hierarchically structured bismuth sulphide (Bi 2 S 3 )/bismuth tungstate (Bi 2 WO 6 ) hybrids have significant photocatalytic efficiency toward heavy metal ions. In order to simplify the synthetic procedure for this desirable composite, we developed a robust single-step hydrothermal synthesis for the formation of hierarchically struc… Show more

“…It can be concluded from the XPS analysis, that the annealed sample (at 600 °C) constituted with normalCnormalunormalWnormalO4 , Cu2O and CuO phases as exist as n‐p‐p ( CuWO4/Cu2O/normalCnormalunormalO ) type‐II heterostructured nanocomposites. Similar result was reported for n ‐ZnO/ p ‐NiO, BiOCl/Bi2WO6 and Bi2normalS3 /Bi2WO6 heterostructured photocatalysts …”

“…Figure c shows the X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) of pristine Bi 2 S 3 flakes in which Bi 4f doublets and S 2p doublet inside the Bi 4f doublet gap are observed. The main peaks located at 158.4 and 163.7 eV are attributed to Bi 4f 7/2 and Bi 4f 5/2 of Bi 3+ states, respectively . The accompanying weak Bi 4f doublet at lower energy (157.1 and 162.4 eV for Bi 4f 7/2 and Bi 4f 5/2 , respectively) are assigned to under‐coordinated and reduced Bi species with lower valency, Bi 2+ according to previous reports, suggesting the existence of sulphur vacancies in pristine samples.…”
