Facile Fabrication of Polyvinyl Alcohol/Edge-Selectively Oxidized Graphene Composite Fibers

Abstract: Graphene derivatives are effective nanofillers for the enhancement of the matrix mechanical properties; nonetheless, graphene oxide (GO), reduced GO, and exfoliated graphene all present distinct advantages and disadvantages. In this study, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composite fibers have been prepared using a recently reported graphene derivative, i.e., edge-selectively oxidized graphene (EOG). The PVA/EOG composite fibers were simply fabricated via conventional wet-spinning methods; thus, they can be produced at… Show more

“…Among the commercial polymers used for dyeing purposes, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVOH) is one of the most encountered polymers in the literature and has attracted huge attention due to its high optical clarity, mechanical stability, biodegradability, environmental‐friendly fabrication process, and compatibility with many compounds. [ 14‐17 ] Many studies are focused on the optical and spectral properties of the pure or dye‐containing PVOH subjected to various stretching degrees. Tanizaki [ 18,19 ] inserted crystal violet, auramine yellow, and pinacyanol iodide in PVOH and has determined the induced dichroism as a function of the stretch rate.…”

“…The density of the CNTF was obtained from the calculation of a cross-sectional area and linear density of CNTF, which is 0.8 g/cm 3 in this work. The specific tensile strength of the CNTF was characterized using a universal testing machine (3344, Instron, Norwood, MA, USA) with the ASTM C1557 method, as described in our previous article [23]. The gauge length of the sample was 1 cm and the crosshead speed was 0.3 mm/min.…”
