“…These occur from blows to the occipital region. Roughly 30%–50% of patients suffering a transverse fracture of the temporal bone develop facial paralysis and concomitant sensori-neural hearing loss and are eight times more likely to develop cerebrospinal fluid otorrhea 11 12. Facial paralysis is severe and prognosis worse in transverse fractures as compared with longitudinal.…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…2 The injury from forceps is induced by pressure of the posterior blade over the bone overlying the vertical segment of the nerve or soft tissue compression over the exit through styloid foramen. 16 Complete transaction of the facial nerve due to birth trauma is rare; more commonly, it is a transient facial neurapraxia. 17 Because of its rarity, the prognosis of Bell palsy in neonates is not clearly known.…”
