“…The third form, known as`nodular colloid degeneration', was first described by Labadie in 1927 10 and later by other authors. 11,12 It consists of isolated or multiple plaques and nodules 0´5±5´0 cm in diameter, 11 which are located predominantly on the face but can also develop on the trunk and extremities. Holzberger 13 reported CM of the hands in a group of 28 workers employed in an oil refinery in the tropics.…”

“…Colloid milium is a rare skin disease characterized by the presence of multiple, small, domeshaped, yellowish-brown, semitranslucent papules on sun-exposed areas. Since the first description of this dermatosis by Wagner (1866) approximately 100 cases of colloid milium have been reported in the literature (Beck & Wifling, i960;Becker & Wilson, 1956;Nodi, i967;Percival&Duthie, 1948;Piredda, 1958;Prakken, 1951;Sullivan & Ellis, 1961;Warin, 1961;Zoon et al, 1955). As already pointed out by Miedzinski et al (i960) two variants of this dermatosis can be differentiated: (i) The adult type, in which the lesions appear in middleaged persons-often caused by actinic and chemical influences (Ferreira-iMarques & von Oden, 1950;Findlay et al, 1975;Guin & Seale, 1959;Holzberger, i960;Miedzinski et al, i960;Rook, 1975)-and (2) the extremely rare juvenile type of colloid milium, which starts before puberty (Woolridge & Frcrichs, i960;Zaun, 1966).…”

“…Colloid milium is currently classified into three different subtypes; (a) adult type (1-7), which occurs on sun-exposed areas such as face, ears, neck and dorsum of hands as small or confluent semi-translucent papules, (b) juvenile form (8), which has been attributed to keratinocyte degeneration and (c) pigmented colloid milium (9) associated with exogenous ochronisis due to hydroquinone bleaching cream among South African blacks. A vague entity called nodular colloid degeneration (10)(11)(12) or paracolloid of the skin (13) may represent a tumefactive nodular amyloidosis which is now characterized as an accumulation of light chain of immunoglobulins. (14,15).…”
