Fabrication of SERS-active conjugated copolymers/gold nanoparticles composite films by interface-directed assembly

Abstract: A new composite film was synthesised by taking advantage of interface-directed assembly between thiol group-functionalized copolymers and Au NPs. The film not only exhibited strongly Au NP concentration-dependent SERS activity, but also allowed detection of a model molecule.

“…Of particular interest is controlling the assembly of inorganic or metallic NPs at the interface between different phase domains of BCPs, to achieve a high degree of order and even responsive behavior . These types of highly ordered hybrid materials have potential applications in flexible sensors, tunable plasmonic nanostructures for surface‐enhanced Raman scattering, ultrafast switches and organic memory devices, and advanced photovoltaic devices …”

“…These helical polymers are proven to be ideal building blocks for self-assembly of 2D and 3D smectic arrangements on a substrate, in solution and solid state. Several works concerning the different substituted helical PPI have been reported by us [ 154 , 155 , 156 , 157 ], and obtained a series of advanced morphology and performance. Therefore, we envision that introducing noncharged hydrophilic helical PPI chains that has a structural similarity to CPPs in the micelle shell may also facilitate intracellular delivery of cargos and create an artificial synthetic noncharged polymer-based delivery system.…”

“…Thus, their use shows promise of achieving precise organization of multi-component NPs at the interface or surface of polymer matrices. These types of highly ordered hybrids have potential applications in flexible sensors, [14][15][16][17][18] tunable plasmonic nanostructures for surface-enhanced Raman scattering, [19][20][21][22] ultrafast switches and organic memory devices, 23,24 and advanced photovoltaic devices. 25,26 This review will specifically focus on the theory and recent publications on the interfacial arrangement of NPs in polymeric materials.…”
