Fabrication of quantum dot/silica core–shell particles immobilizing Au nanoparticles and their dual imaging functions

Abstract: The present work proposes preparation methods for quantum dot/silica (QD/SiO 2 ) core-shell particles that immobilize Au nanoparticles (QD/SiO 2 /Au). A colloid solution of QD/SiO 2 core-shell particles with an average size of 47.0 ± 6.1 nm was prepared by a sol-gel reaction of tetraethyl orthosilicate in the presence of the QDs with an average size of 10.3 ± 2.1 nm. A colloid solution of Au nanoparticles with an average size of 17.9 ± 1.3 nm was prepared by reducing Au 3? ions with sodium citrate in water at … Show more

“…These materials are also biocompatible and contain low toxicity. Silica nanoparticles were easily combined with iron oxide, quantum dots, uorescent dye, gold, and other metal nanoparticles to form hybrid nanoparticles [18][19][20][21]. In this work, we developed low density silica particles based on organ silane modi cation and calcinations.…”

“…An inexpensive and highly sensitive fluorescence probe would be a great choice for designing dye-doped NPs to make NPs visible. However, the clinic application of conventional fluorescence probes is limited by the nature of aggregation caused quenching (ACQ) of these dyes. Luckily, an interesting photophysical phenomenon of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) for luminescent materials has been observed by Tang and his co-workers in 2001 . An AIE fluorescence probe is a kind of promising candidate for bioimaging.…”
