Fabrication of polyaniline coated iron oxide hybrid particles and their dual stimuli-response under electric and magnetic fields

Abstract: Abstract. Polyaniline (PANI)-coated iron oxide (Fe 3 O 4 ) sphere particles were fabricated and applied to a dual stimuliresponsive material under electric and magnetic fields, respectively. Sphere Fe 3 O 4 particles were synthesized by a solvothermal process and protonated after acidification. The aniline monomer tended to surround the surface of the Fe 3 O 4 core due to the electrostatic and hydrogen bond interactions. A core-shell structured product was finally formed by the oxidation polymerization of PANI… Show more

“…For the Fe 3 O 4 microspheres, the weight loss at 20–300 °C was ascribed to residual water and surfactant PEG4000, which is against particle agglomeration in the formation process of Fe 3 O 4 microspheres . A sharp degradation of the resulting sample at 100–600 °C was mainly assigned to the thermal degradation of PANI, in agreement with the previous result . On the basis of TGA data, the content of PANI in the resulting sample is approximately 44.9 %.…”

“…Especially since the Noble Prize was awarded to H. Shirakawa, A. G. MacDiarmid, and A. J. Heeger, these new materials have become one of the most studied class of polymers. Semiconducting polymers are compounds combining the most desirable properties of conventional plastics with the properties of electrically conductive materials . Polymers regarded as synthetic metals or organic semiconductors possess variety of interesting and useful optical, electrical, and chemical properties.…”

“…Semiconducting polymers are compounds combining the most desirable properties of conventional plastics with the properties of electrically conductive materials. [3][4][5] Polymers regarded as synthetic metals or organic semiconductors possess variety of interesting and useful optical, electrical, and chemical properties. In recent decades there has been growing progress in practical application of these materials as important component of electronic devices such as OLED's, solar cells, conductometric sensors, and dry batteries.…”

“…The majority of these works refers to the variation of magnetic permeability, dielectric permittivity at GHz, and absorption properties, with the composition and the preparation procedure of ceramic compounds. On the other hand studies concerning the magnetic behaviour of polymer based composites are still scarce [9][10][11][12][13]. Polymers exhibit a number of advantages, which include ease processing and forming, thermomechanical stability, high dielectric breakdown strength and low cost.…”
