Fabricating the Superhydrophobic Nickel and Improving Its Antifriction Performance by the Laser Surface Texturing

Abstract: The superhydrophobic surface can change the friction property of the material, reduce the adhesion of the friction interface, and produce a certain slip, thereby reducing the friction coefficient. The laser has high energy, high density, and is especially suitable for the surface treatment of materials. The laser surface texturing is a good way to construct superhydrophobic surfaces. The experiment uses a nanosecond pulse laser to construct the groove texture on the nickel surface. The contact area between the… Show more

“…Processing micro-structures (such as micro-groove arrays, cone arrays and so on) on a material surface can give the material special properties, such as hydrophobicity [ 1 ], drug delivery [ 2 ], antifriction properties [ 3 ], optical properties [ 4 ] and self-cleaning [ 5 ]. Polymer materials are widely used in the preparation of micro-parts and surface structures because of their low cost, improving manufacturing technology, optical properties and chemical resistance [ 6 ].…”

“…Electrodeposition is a low-cost and simple coating technique, while a controllable surface feature is available by applying suitable electrodeposition parameters [18][19][20][21]. Some recent studies prepared the electrodeposited superhydrophobic nickel (Ni) coatings on metallic substrates with a favoured surface micro or nanostructure [22][23][24][25]. The fabricated nickel coating revealed a needlelike surface morphology with the superhydrophobic ability.…”
