Abstract: Abstract For two high density polyethylene resins, the isothermal time dependency of extrudate swell has been measured. Very minor differences in the large molecular weight part of the molecular weight distribution, hardly detectable with gel permeation chromatography and low angle laser light scattering techniques, dramatically influence the time dependency of extrudate swell as well as the maximum swell attainable.
