Extraction And Characterization Of Cycloartenol Isolated From Stems And Leaves of Coix Lacryma-Jobi L. And Its Potential Cytotoxic Activity

Abstract: [Background] Coix lacryma-jobi L. is a nourishing food and a traditional Chinese medicine and has been used for the treatment of neuralgia, inflammatory diseases, and rheumatism. Little is known about the anti-tumor of Coix lacryma-jobi L.. In this study, the cytotoxic effects of Coix lacryma-jobi L. on HeLa, HepG2, and SGC-7901 were evaluated.[Methods] The cytotoxic active compounds were isolated and extraction from the stems and leaves of Coix lacryma-jobi L. The structural identification of the compound was… Show more

“…Furthermore, the cycloartenol also inhibited oxidative stress and total ROS production via NF-κB signaling (Yu et al, 2021). Through inhibition of IκB kinase activation, this steroid blocked IκBα phosphorylation and degradation, thus suppressing p65 phosphorylation and nuclear translocation (Yu et al, 2021).…”

“…It inhibits the translocation of the p65 into the nucleus to induce the transcription of the pro-inflammatory mediators via increasing the IκB protein (Gupta & Ved, 2017). Cycloartenol is a triterpenoid sterol in other PSs that has been implicated in the inhibition of tumorigenesis by targeting the NF-κB and increasing the IkB inhibitor (Yu, Ye, Li, Li, & Huang, 2021). Furthermore, the cycloartenol also inhibited oxidative stress and total ROS production via NF-κB signaling (Yu et al, 2021).…”

“…The non-toxic form of nanoparticles have been used in cancer therapy [39,40]. Considering the biological activities of Coix lacryma jobi, which acts as antioxidant [41], cytotoxic activities [42] and its leaves extracts at a different medium that inhibits various cancer cells such as Hela, HepG2, and SGC-7901 [43,44], hepatoprotective and anti-inflammatory activity [45] antitumor activities in human cervical cells [46] antibacterial and anthelmintic activities [47] were observed. However, the preparation of green CuO NPs using Coix lacryma jobi leaves has not yet been reported to the best of our knowledge.…”
