“…This is the first report providing a clear photographic illustration on the architecture of lobules and connecting tubules in the testicular assembly to a greater extent using AFM. The AFM approach employed in this study could help us to overcome the limitations faced on the illustration of these intrinsic structures through light and electron microscopic attempts made by others so far (14,15). Leaflike branching lobules shooting from the radially dividing basal tubes further suggest the feasibility of the formation and maturation of sperm cells within the lumen of testicular lobes.…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…For image processing we used ImageSXM software (Barrett, 1997). For volume determinations (see also Fritzsche and Henderson, 1996;Allen et al, 1996) a mean background value was subtracted from the image data. Structural features were selected by applying a binary mask generated from thresholding the surface corrugations.…”

“…In sperm cells and viruses, where gene transcription is inactive, DNA condensation approaches the limits of molecular compaction (2,3). The condensation of free DNA in vitro has long been of interest as a potential model for DNA condensation in vivo, particularly as a model of DNA packaging in viruses (4)(5)(6).…”
